War flared on all sides, and the nation shook on the brink of collapse. A woman lived alone in her secluded chamber, gazing out the window day after day. In a plain white dress, brows slightly drawn, she waited in silence, longing only for the general at the border to achieve victory, take off his armor, and return home. She held onto a marriage vow and a deep affection, waiting from dawn to dusk, pinning all her hopes for the rest of her life on the man fighting far away. Yet before she ever heard the sound of his returning horse, terrible news of ruined cities, a fallen nation, and a routed army arrived. The border was lost, the soldiers were gone, and her beloved was buried on the battlefield, never to return. The promise to accompany each other turned to dust in an instant. Overwhelmed by inconsolable grief, she made a resolute decision and died for love. After her death, her longing did not cease, and her obsession lingered. A wisp of her passionate soul remained in the old courtyard, refusing to enter the cycle of reincarnation or leave the mortal world. She became a ghostly immortal, wandering on moonlit nights, with only wind and dew for company. The chamber stood as before, but the people and times were no longer the same. Through the years, through every dawn and dusk, she kept silent watch over the empty street and the lonely chamber, with only one thought in her life: waiting for him to come home.

Melting Snow
Frost seeps into the bone as the cold moon chains her lonely soul.
Fettered by heartstrings, she steps onto the mortal path, her soul fading, her heart withered.
Yet her heart remains unchanged, her original oath unbetrayed. With no regret in this life, she embraces the world ahead.
Su Yue, known as The Jadefrost Maiden, has cultivated the realm called the Apathic Doctrine for centuries. Born into the pinnacle celestial sect of Shenyu, she possessed unparalleled talent from a young age, and the sect placed great hopes on her. She was ordered to sever all emotions and eliminate stray thoughts from childhood, taking apathy as her root and the severing of desire as her doctrine.
Throughout the long ages, etiquette bound her form, and cultivation methods shackled her heart. Seasons lost their edge; the world's vibrant peaks and rivers faded into a monochromatic void of black and white. Fellow disciples revered and distanced themselves from her, and elders were strict and indifferent. Her endless immortal journey was accompanied only by solitary snow and the cold moon. Others envied her profound cultivation and transcendent grace, but no one knew that she had never truly comprehended the Apathic Doctrine. She merely forcibly suppressed her true heart, imprisoning her true self within a cage of silence.
Centuries of static meditation held firm until the youth Gu Shi stepped before the sect's gate. He was vibrant, sincere, and pure, unafraid of her coldness and unconstrained by worldly etiquette. With a heart full of reverence and burning vitality, he melted the ice that had sealed her heart for hundreds of years. In those stagnant years, it was her first time touching the warmth of the mortal world, and long-buried emotions stirred quietly beneath the surface.
As master and disciple, strictly adhering to the sect rules was their duty, but the stirring of the heart was irreversible, and obsession was hard to suppress. Forbidden emotions tore at her spirit day and night. The shackles of her cultivation, the strict precepts of the sect, and worldly ethics entangled her layer by layer, plunging her into relentless self-torment. On one side was the doctrine she had cultivated all her life, and on the other was the only stirring of the heart and solace in her life. Her tribulation of heart and love became inextricably intertwined, and cracks gradually appeared in her heart.
Ultimately, she chose to abandon the sect's dogma and break free of worldly bonds, withdrawing from the world and living in seclusion with Gu Shi as soul mates. These hard‑earned years of peace and tenderness were bought at the cost of exhausting her very foundation. The Apathic Doctrine inherently rejected emotion; the moment her heart moved, all powers turned against her. Her cultivation frayed as her physical body decayed, and her heart drifted like rootless duckweed. She forced herself to bear all the pain and torment, unwilling to let her beloved worry, seeking only to hold onto this rare moment of warmth.
Destiny once written is a calamity hard to escape. When Gu Shi's cultivation reached perfection, the Three Calamities descended. The Calamity of War swept the mortal realm; their homeland was left in ruins, and the flames of battle spread like a wildfire. The two were forced to back to the mortal realm to bear the calamity. This act drew the ire of the major sects, and thousands of cultivators joined forces to besiege them until there was nowhere left to run.
Su Yue, who had seen through all illusions and shackles, had long grown tired of being manipulated by the doctrine and swept along by destiny. Unwilling to see her lover perish and refusing to be a pawn of fate, she resolved to break the stalemate with her own existence.
At the precipice of ruin, Su Yue abandoned centuries of cultivation and her very claim to immortality. Her spirit and soul completely burned as she sacrificed herself to the divine sword, Pathbreaker. With her own perishing, she resolved the Calamity of War, severed the chains of destiny, and gave everything to protect Gu Shi through his brush with death.
She broke free from the chains of the Apathic Doctrine and found her true self within the forbidden. Through sacrifice, she won her own release and secured her beloved's remaining life. Yet, this tragic act of fulfillment turned into an obsession that Gu Shi could never escape, causing him to be entangled by the Spirit Demon from then on and leaving him forever trapped in memories and regret.
