Legend speaks of him dwelling upon the winter throne in the uttermost north, the wellspring of all winter's tranquility and order. His silver-white beard mirrors the frost itself, and his profound eyes hold the radiance of stars and ancient wisdom. On the eve of the Frostfall Festival, he caresses the world with his hand of ice, spreading snow like a velvet mantle across the land, hushing all tumult to prepare a silent stage for miracles yet to unfold. Children believe the hushed, soundless snow nights beyond their windows are proof of King Harz's silent vigil. Those bitter currents that would disturb the festival are transformed beneath his gaze into crystalline wards protecting the towns. When he walks the mortal realm at midnight, even the most tempestuous northern winds withdraw their fury. By each sleeping child's pillow blooms an eternal ice rose in silence—his protective token, ensuring all innocent wishes reach the distant shores of dreams unscathed.

A Crown of Ice
"Ice runs through his very marrow. The North is his to rule."
-King Hengest
In Tya, the appeal of life in the far North is lost on many who reside in warmer climates. Considered one of the last frontiers, its people are as hard as the ice that coats it. A people now lead by King Harz, The Northfrost Crown.
Born to King Hengest, Harz' early years were comprised of learning the principles of northern leadership, many of which he did not often agree with. Though Hengest was a protective ruler, he cared little for contact with the outside world, believing southern nations corrupt and greedy. During a particularly harsh winter, Prince Harz urged his father to open trade routes and forge alliances. The king would not hear it, forbidding his son to ride south if he ever wanted to claim his birthright of kingship.
Harz' pride was wounded. Having led his father's armies for years, Hengest's misguided jingoism pushed him away. Relinquishing his birthright, Harz left Fort Blacklast under cover of night, determined to connect with the outside world.
In just a few years, Harz experienced more in his travels than in all the time he'd spent in the north. Possessing the charisma of a capable prince, many were instantly drawn to him, naming him a steadfast friend before long. Traveling mainly in the Dwarven Mountains and Mosune Empire, the powerful allies he met vowed to lend him aid if ever a need should arise. It wouldn't be long before those vows were tested.
Harz received word that Fort Blacklast was under siege and in dire need of aid. His father's men had suppressed a band of ice giants for weeks, but supplies were dwindling rapidly, and the fort would not hold. Appealing to the hearts of his new friends, Harz rode north with a contingency of men and Dwarves, wiping out the giants in a glorious charge those of the tundra still speak of today.
When the snow had settled, King Hengest embraced his prodigal son and gazed at the "outsiders" who'd saved his kingdom. Realizing the mistake of isolating his people, Hengest abdicated his throne, declaring Harz king and welcoming their new allies.
King Harz rules Fort Blacklast to this day, a beacon Northern justice. Though he'd go on to sire a daughter, it would not be long before his heart would shatter…
