"Justice is blind. So too must be the hand that wields it." —Cassiel, to Jeera His blade once delivered divine justice without question. Now, it carves a path of silence, unburdened by doubt. The gods do not hesitate. Why should he? Born in the kingdom of Liberros, Cassiel and his younger sister Jeera had grown up in the shadow of war. They bore witness to the fall of Akkadia, the collapse of the Watchguard, and the deafening split of the Collective. Yet the true breaking point came one fateful night, when the Chaos Dominion descended upon their village. Their parents had fought bravely, their father cutting down several invaders before being struck down, their mother shielding Jeera from the blade meant for her. And Cassiel, weapon in hand, stood ready for battle, but it was fear that gripped him, rooting him in place. The Dominion left their home in ruin, their family taken before their very eyes. In that eternal moment, a cold realization dawned upon Cassiel—against such darkness, mortal men were nothing. So when word spread of the Supreme Arbiters and their quest for Tya's salvation, offering the strength of the gods to those brave enough to fight for it, he stepped forward without hesitation. If his hands must be stained red to cleanse the world, so be it. Under Praetus, Cassiel's rise was meteoric. A warrior of unparalleled discipline, he became a paragon of holy retribution, meting out the Arbiters' will with cold precision. Yet, deep beneath his righteous exterior, his deepest motivations were not born of faith, nor justice. It was vengeance. Every life taken was an offering, a desperate attempt to make the world fear him as he once feared the forces that stole his past. Praetus saw this for what it was—a weapon begging to be wielded. As the war between the Arbiters and the Chaos Dominion escalated in the wake of Akkadia's fall, Cassiel was sent on a mission that would cement his legacy: A village was to be razed, a supposed den of heretics and demon worshippers. Alistair, the Meteor Sage, had originally been given command of the operation, but soon denounced it as atrocity. Cassiel showed no such hesitation. Seizing control of the battalion, he led the slaughter and painted the earth in fire and blood. Yet when the smoke cleared, there were no heretics. No demonic forces lurking in the shadows. Only the faces of the innocent—twisted in agony, frozen in death. For a single, fleeting moment, doubt crept in. He turned to Jeera, expecting reassurance, but found only shock and disgust. Alistair and others would soon defect, rejecting the Arbiters' descent into bloodshed. However, Cassiel could not afford their weakness. If hesitation had cost him his past, he would never allow it to claim his future. He cast aside his doubts and embraced his role as the Supreme Arbiters' most exacting blade. But in that gesture, something in Cassiel was lost—a shred of his humanity: Compassion. Now, in the quiet moments between battles, Cassiel sometimes catches his own reflection in the sheen of his sword. And for the briefest instant, the face staring back at him is that of a man he no longer recognizes.
