Studying magic at the White Tower as an apprentice of Lightlocke, one of the seven elders, Aryn was highly gifted but deeply distressed. He felt the White Tower's rigid hierarchy was preventing him from learning more knowledge, so he left there in search of ancient tomes scattered over the land of Tya. He traveled a lot but gained little, obsessed with new spells but unconcerned about old practice. Aryn returned to the White Tower later, only found that his former schoolmates had surpassed him too much. He was frustrated.
