0The Blade Beneath History
"I mended his blade many times, but not every fracture was in the steel." —Leonardo da Vinci Ezio Auditore da Firenze was born into an old noble house, the son of a respected Florentine banker and heir to an Assassin lineage. In his early years, Ezio knew little of secret wars or ancient creeds. He was proud of his family and quick to defend their name, with a recklessness that made enemies before he understood what they could become. All changed when his father and brothers were arrested under false charges. Before he could unveil the trap closing in around them, they were executed. Ezio would flee Florence with his mother and sister. The boy who had treated danger as sport was now forced into a harsh inheritance. Among his father's belongings, he found a white robe, a hidden blade, and proof that his father had died fighting an enemy older than any family feud. An enemy who had known the Auditore family far longer than Ezio had known himself. Ezio's first steps into the dark world were driven by anger. He hunted the men responsible for his family's deaths, following their trail through Florence and beyond. Each answer only led him deeper into a conflict between the Assassins and the Templars, whose reach spread through courts and noble houses. What began as revenge became a long lesson in power: how it lied, how it dressed itself as law, and how many innocent lives could be crushed beneath its order. Through allies, Ezio grew into the space his father had left behind. He learned the Creed not as a phrase to be repeated, but as a duty to be carried. The hidden blade remained his inheritance, though the hand that wielded it changed with every loss, mercy, and truth uncovered from shadow. His long pursuit at last led to Rodrigo Borgia, the man whose ambition had stained so much of Ezio's life. There, with his enemy beaten and the old wound laid open before him, Ezio chose to stay his blade. Perhaps he believed the dead had been answered. Perhaps he was tired of feeding his grief. He left Rodrigo alive, and walked away as an Assassin who had learned the cost of vengeance. Yet even mercy cannot erase all grudges.
