When the illusions of the Nine-Tailed Fox took hold, even Erlang Shen—the last judge of truth, bearer of the Third Eye—was not immune to her spell. The fox spun a dream so precise, so achingly perfect, that it wrapped around his mind like silk. It offered peace. Closure. A life without burden. And Erlang nearly succumbed to the dark. Then came the fracture. A flicker behind his brow. The Third Eye flared open—not in rage, but clarity. With it came pain, as the dream shattered and the truth returned like a blade. He emerged crowned in spectral armor, his form reshaped by revelation. His celestial hound howled into the phantom dark, hunting down what remained of the lie. Now, the Lucent Fang walks where dreams still linger, at the edge of truth. For while the light dispels all illusions, so too can the darkness conceal them.

An Unexpected Guest

"To wield the truth is to walk alone. Open your eye, and see the world as it is—not as it wishes to be." –The Immortal of Mount Yuxu Before the temples bore his likeness and the heavens marked his name, Erlang Shen had merely been a seeker—Yang Jian, the one who walked through ice and illusion to find his master in the mountains. Under the guidance of a reclusive immortal, he shed his earthly attachments and awakened his third eye, revealing a vision unclouded by appearances, fixated solely on truth. The ultimate liberation. Yang Jian had been the name of a man, but Erlang Shen would be the title of a god. Endowed with a new form, he lent his strength to a new dynasty—the one favored by the Jade Emperor himself—and ascended to legend, becoming divine judge in the era of celestial law. With spear in hand and hound at his side, he struck down demons, quelled rebellion, and saw truth where others were misled. Indeed, while his eye could perceive, it was judgment that empowered Erlang. And so, when the Nine-Tailed Fox was finally bound, it was Erlang Shen who was chosen to guard her. Not as a warden, but a counter—a force incapable of being deceived. Yet vigilance breeds solitude. And solitude, in time, becomes its own burden. When Ne Zha was assigned to the Star-Picking Belvedere, the Court asked Erlang Shen to share his post. To guide the reckless prodigy, and perhaps learn something himself in return. He accepted, though quietly he wondered if fate itself had brought them together. Then came the summons from the Celestial Court—brief, official, and inconvenient. Erlang stepped away for a single breath, trusting the post to another. That breath was all she needed. By the time he returned, the seal was shattered. The Fox was gone. The Belvedere—a tower carved with the will of heaven itself—lay in ruins. In its place yawned an open rift, pulsing and wrong. Not merely a hole in the world, but a wound in reality. He followed them, of course. Now in Tya—far from the silks and order of the Celestial Realm—Erlang Shen walks a land already gripped by danger. The Tides of Darkness have long ravaged its lands, a creeping scourge that devours coastlines, minds, and memory itself. What spilled from the rift was seemingly not separate from this darkness, but part of it. Perhaps the Fox's escape was not merely a lapse, but a sign—a summon. Something ancient stirs beneath these waters, and the chaos she unleashed may only be its herald. Erlang's third eye detects the strands between them all—the rift, the Fox, the deepening hunger below—and understands what others cannot: Tya is not cursed by coincidence. It is a battlefield. And he is needed on every front. His hound now tracks Ne Zha, who now blazes across this foreign sky in search of vengeance, but Erlang knows that the Nine-Tailed Fox is only the beginning. The rift did not merely open—it invited. And what answered has not yet finished speaking. He is the Mind's Eye. The last judge of truth. And if this world is to survive what's coming, he must be more than watchful. He must be unleashed.
